From June 2012 until June 2014, Abdulwahab was Ambassador at the Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs, fostering and advancing Yemeni international relations. Prior to this, he served as Yemen’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United States and Mexico, and Yemen’s Permanent Observer to the Organization of American States, from September 1997 until June 2012. During his Ambassadorship in Washington D.C., Abdulwahab had many significant accomplishments, including restoring U.S.-Yemeni relations and aid programs, enhancing security cooperation, and supporting the economic development and investment climate in Yemen. Prior to becoming an Ambassador, Abdulwahab served twice before in the United States, once as Minister Plenipotentiary in 1995, and in 1982 as Cultural Attaché where he launched Yemen’s first cultural mission to the United States. In the Middle East, he was in Egypt from 1987 until 1992 where he served as a cultural, and then political, Counselor at the Embassy of Yemen in Cairo.
