Member of the Belgian Parliament, Vice President of the Parliamentary Network on the World Bank and IMF (PNoWB) and Political Coordinator of the The Association of European Parliamentarians for Africa (AWEPA) for the Great Lakes Region. He was a Senator (1995-2010) and President of the Parliamentary Network on the World Bank and IMF (2010-2013). He also served as President of the International Crisis Group, Secretary General of Médecins Sans Frontière International, and President of Parliamentarians for Global Action. He is the author of numerous books and articles.
